Factors Contributing to the Decline in the Performance of Fifth-Grade Students in the UPKK (Ujian Penilaian Kelas KAFA) in the Gua Musang Area, 2022–2023

This research investigates the factors contributing to the decline in the academic performance of Year Five students in the UPKK examinations in the Gua Musang district during the 2022–2023 academic year. The study aims to explore both internal and external factors that have led to this decline, with a focus on identifying the most influential elements. Employing a descriptive-analytical methodology, the study collected primary data from examination results and questionnaires distributed to 109 UPKK teachers in the Gua Musang area. The findings revealed that the highest mean score was attributed to students frequently falling asleep during lessons (mean = 3.60), indicating this as a significant internal factor. Among the external factors, it was found that some KAFA teachers lacked the appropriate qualifications to teach UPKK subjects (mean = 3.54), which also contributed to the decline in student performance. The study offers practical recommendations aimed at improving student performance in future UPKK examinations. The findings serve as a valuable guide for teachers and administrators in making informed decisions to enhance student outcomes. Furthermore, they can be utilized in the development of curricula and educational programs specifically tailored for the UPKK assessments.
