لا يُعد الاستشهاد بالشعر في تفسير القرآن الكريم عنصرًا زخرفيًّا أو حشوًا بلاغيًّا، بل أمر مهم وظّفه المفسرون، وفي مقدّمتهم الإمام الطبري، في شرح غريب القرآن، واستجلاء معانيه الدقيقة ضمن السياق القرآني. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تحليل الشواهد الشعرية في تفسيره لسورة الرعد بهدف الكشف عن طبيعة استخدامها، وأنواعها، ووظائفها التفسيرية. وقد أسفرت النتائج إلى أن الطبري أورد أربعة وثلاثين شاهدًا شعريًا، توزّعت بين الشواهد اللغوية بنسبة 56%، والشواهد النحوية بنسبة 35%، في مقابل 6% للشواهد البلاغية، و3% للشواهد للتاريخية، مما يعكس اهتمام الطبري بالجانب اللغوي والنحوي عندما يأتي بالشواهد الشعرية في تفسيره، كما اتضح أن معظم الشعراء الذين استشهد في بأبياتهم الشعرية ينتمون إلى العصور الثلاثة، وهي: الجاهلي، وصدر الإسلام، والأموي. وهذا يدل بأن الطبري ملتزم بما وضعه علماء اللغة من شروط الاحتجاج بالشواهد الشعرية. وتثبت الدراسة إلى الطبري من خلال توظيفه للشعر العربي أنه لم يجعله عنصرًا زخرفيًّا لتفسيره، بل وظّفها بصورة دقيقة لتعزيز المعنى، وتحديد الدلالة، وتوضيح المقصود من الآيات، خصوصًا في المواضع التي تتسم بالغموض أو التعدد الدلالي.
